Flamenco dance, song and guitar workshop with Fin de Fiesta Flamenco
August 17th and 18th, 2026
The members of the touring music and dance ensemble Fin de Fiesta Flamenco will be giving a two-day flamenco workshop with three distinct streams – dance, singing, and guitar. Fin de Fiesta Flamenco’s members work, train and create in Seville, Spain, the birthplace of flamenco, and then transport that beating heart of the art form to the Canadian public through performances, workshops, classes, talks and other outreach activities. Fin de Fiesta Flamenco’s mandate is to make this truly inclusive and multicultural art form accessible to Canadians, and to give Canadians the tools to become active participants in the flamenco arts.
The first part of each day will be dedicated to instruction in a specific discipline (participants will choose either dance, singing and guitar). Dancers will learn a short choreography in the tangos palo and dance technique. Singers will learn letras (song verses) in the tangos palo and singing technique. Guitarists will learn chord progressions and falsettas for tangos, as well as flamenco guitar techniques.
For the final hour of day one, the three disciplines will join together, and participants will have the opportunity to practice what they have learned in a cuadro setting – dance, guitar and singing working together and in harmony.
For the final part of day two, we will have a flamenco juerga, or party/jam. We’ll put the chairs in a big circle, lower the lights, and crack open a bottle of vino (or dos). Then we will all take turns putting what we have learned into practice, singing our tangos letras, dancing our tangos pataitas, and playing our tangos falsettas, guided by the members of Fin de Fiesta Flamenco.
